Leader of the House

- Role in Rajya Sabha: In the Rajya Sabha, the Leader of the House is a minister and member of the Rajya Sabha, nominated by the Prime Minister.
- Responsibilities: The Leader of the House is an important functionary who directly influences the conduct of business in the respective house. He can also appoint a deputy leader of the House.
Leader of the Opposition
- Definition: The Leader of the Opposition is the leader of the largest opposition party that holds at least one-tenth of the total seats in the house.
- Recognition: The Leader of the Opposition in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha received statutory recognition in 1977. They receive salary, allowances, and other facilities equivalent to that of a cabinet minister.
- History: The official Leader of the Opposition was first recognized in 1969.
Whip
- Role: The office of the whip is a convention in parliamentary government, not mentioned in the Constitution, Rules of the House, or Parliamentary Statute.
- Responsibilities: Each political party has its own whip in Parliament. The whip serves as an assistant floor leader and is responsible for ensuring party members attend in large numbers and support or oppose particular issues.
